There are tons of cute Pokémon out there to add to your party! As of 2023, finding the best cute Pokémon from over 900 individual species can get pretty difficult.
You may be thinking that cute Pokémon don’t have any value other than being nice to look at. However, while this may be true when it comes to battling, cute Pokémon have always been staples of Pokémon contests!
While a Pokémon’s physical appearance has no impact on gameplay, it has been proven in the anime that cute Pokémon always perform exceptionally well when it comes time to take to the Pokémon runway!
Cute Pokémon also make for the best real-world merchandise! Plushies, badges, and pins of an adorable Pikachu are sure to attract more people than a Muk wearing a pink ribbon!
This list will forego legendaries. As cute as Mew looks on his Legendary Pokémon cards with cute Pokémon pictures, we’ll be focusing on normal Pokémon for now.
So, without further ado, check out my cute Pokémon!
20. Fennekin
Starting off this list, we have Fennekin. The world is no stranger to fox Pokémon, and these often make up some of the cutest species in the entire franchise (Zorua and Vulpix, to name a few).
Fennekin is the fire-type starter of Generation VI, subsequently evolving into Braixen and then Delphox. Fennekin takes inspiration from the Fennec Fox, an animal with especially large ears.
Additionally, its final form, Delphox, is very unique and is inspired by mages and witchcraft.
Fennekin has seen several appearances in the anime, having been trained by Serena and Aria. Braixen has also taken the spotlight in the Pokémon spinoff game Pokkén Tournament.
Where to Catch Fennekin
Fennekin is available at the beginning of Pokémon X and Y as a starter Pokémon.
Additionally, you can also breed with a Ditto to acquire Fennekin.
19. Oshawott
Oshawott is an adorable sea otter Pokémon and the water-type starter for Generation V. It evolves into Dewott and then eventually Samurott.
Additionally, Oshawott is one of the three starters for Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Here, Oshawott will evolve into Hisuian Samurott and receive a different form from its Unova counterpart.
Oshawott has seen regular appearances in the Pokémon anime, being a core member of Ash’s team throughout his adventures in Unova.
Where to Catch Oshawott
Oshawott can be acquired at the start of any Generation V Pokémon game as well as at the start of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
It can also be found in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire via Professor Birch after completing the Delta Episode.
Finally, Oshawott can also be found after beating Pokémon Legends: Arceus as a gift and also on Alabaster Icelands after beating the main story.
18. Tepig
Tepig is the fire-type starter from Generation V. It evolves into Pignite and then Emboar.
Tepig is incredibly cute in its basic form, but unfortunately, Emboar received a lot of community backlash due to it being yet another fire-fighting-type Pokémon.
However, Ash’s Tepig saw plenty of action in the anime and is probably a big contributing factor as to why Tepig never fell out of fans’ favor.
Where to Catch Tepig
Tepig is acquired at the start of B/W/B2/W2 as a starter Pokémon.
It can also be found in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire via Professor Birch after completing the Delta Episode.
17. Snivy
Snivy is the grass-type starter Pokémon of Generation V. Despite its smug expression, its tiny size, small arm leaves, and large eyes make it positively huggable!
Snivy was also a core member of Ash’s team throughout the Black and White anime adaptation.
Where to Catch Snivy
Snivy is acquired at the start of B/W/B2/W2 as a starter Pokémon.
It can also be found in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire via Professor Birch after completing the Delta Episode.
16. Chimchar
Chimchar is the fire-type starter from Generation IV. It evolves into Monferno and then eventually Infernape.
Chimchar has always been a fan favorite Pokémon due to its cute demeanor, but also due to its role in the anime.
Having been abandoned by Paul for being too weak, Chimchar was then welcomed into Ash’s party, where it performed very well on several occasions.
It is also your only option for a fire-type Pokémon (aside from Ponyta) in the original Diamond and Peal games (something which was remedied in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s Underground along with Hondour – a cool fire hound and the mascot for Pokémon Radical Red).
Where to Catch Chimchar
Chimchar can be acquired during the beginning of Generation IV (including the remakes) as a starter Pokémon.
In the remakes it can also be found in the Grand Underground.
Finally, Chimchar is also available in Legends: Arceus in these three locations:
- Deertrack Heights (only one)
- Ramanas Island
- Obsidian Fieldlands (Mass Outbreak)
15. Turtwig
Turtwig is the grass-type starter from Generation IV.
It evolves into Grotle and then Torterra.
Like most starters, Turtwig also made its way onto Ash’s team but actually managed to evolve into its final form during the show.
Where to Catch Turtwig
Turtwig can be found at the start of the Generation IV games as well as the remakes (and the Grand Underground).

- Droning Meadow,
- Crimson Mirelands (Mass Outbreak)
14. Piplup
The water-type starter Pokémon of Generation IV that evolves into Prinplup and eventually Empoleon, here comes Piplup.
This is an adorable little penguin Pokémon, and considering how cute penguins are in our world, it is no surprise that Piplup is as cute as it is.
Piplup has seen lots of screentime in the Pokémon anime as it was a part of Dawn’s team and would often compete with her in various Pokémon contests.
Where to Catch Piplup
As a starter Pokémon, Piplup can be found at the beginning of the Generation IV games and the remakes as a starter Pokémon.
Additionally, it is also received from Professor Birch on Route 101 after entering the Hall of Fame twice in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
It is also found in Legends: Arceus at these locations:
- Spring Path
- Cobalt Coastlands (Mass Outbreak)
13. Treecko
Treecko is an adorably smug little gecko Pokémon. Much like its reptilian peer Snivy, Treecko is a grass-type starter Pokémon (in this case, from Generation III).
Treecko has seen lots of attention in the world of Pokémon and was a staple of Ash’s team throughout his adventures in Hoenn.
Eventually, Ash’s Treecko would evolve into a Grovyle and then a Sceptile.
Where to Catch Treecko
Treecko is obtained at the start of the Generation III games as a starter Pokémon.
It is also found in HeartGold and SoulSilver as a gift from Steven Stone after defeating Red.
In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, it can be found in the Grand Underground as well.
12. Torchic
Torchic is the adorable fire chicken Pokémon that many wish did not evolve into the bipedal powerhouse Blaziken (from Combusken).
Blaziken is a terror in competitive play thanks to its Speed Boost ability, quickly snowballing if left unchecked.
However, if you are happy with your cute little Torchic, feel free to give it an Everstone!
May felt the same way seemingly and went on to compete in several contests with her Torchic!
Where to Catch Torchic
Torchic is obtained at the start of the Generation III games as a starter Pokémon.
It is also found in HeartGold and SoulSilver as a gift from Steven Stone after defeating Red.
In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl it can be found in the Grand Underground as well.
11. Mudkip
Mudkip is not only the origin of one of the earliest Pokémon memes but a great water-type starter from Generation III as well.
After evolving into Marshtomp and then Swampert, it gains the ground typing. Water/Ground is a great type with immunity to Electric (making its only threatening weakness to Grass types).
This time around, Brock was the one to wind up with a starter Pokémon and would often use it in battles.
Where to Catch Mudkip
Mudkip is obtained at the start of the Generation III games as a starter Pokémon.
It is also found in HeartGold and SoulSilver as a gift from Steven Stone after defeating Red.
In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, it can be found in the Grand Underground as well.
10. Cyndaquil
Cyndaquil is a cute little mouse Pokémon with its eyes perpetually closed.
It evolves into Quilava and then Typhlosion. Both Ash and Dawn partnered with Cyndaquils during their adventures in different regions, and it provided much-needed fire support to their teams.
Additionally, Cyndaquil is one of the starters for Legends: Arceus, where its Hisuian final form received the secondary ghost typing.
Where to Catch Cyndaquil
Cyndaquil is found as a starter in Generation II and in Legends: Arceus.
Additionally, it can be received from Professor Laventon and in Space-time distortions in Legends: Arceus also.

Moving on, this Pokémon can be found in Pokémon XD by battling the red evil team member or after completing 100 Trainers in Mt. Battle.
In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it is received from Professor Birch after first entering the hall of fame.
In Sun and Moon, it can be found on Route 2 using the Island Scan.
Finally, in BDSP, it can be found in the Grand Underground.
9. Chikorita
The next of the Pokémon Gold and Silver cute Pokémon characters, Chikorita is the grass-type starter Pokémon from Generation II, who many long-term anime viewers will remember for its interspecies crush on Ash.
Ash’s Chikorita was always very cute and got even cuter when it evolved into Bayleef (where, in the games, it would then evolve into Meganium).
Chikorita is often considered the weakest of the Johto starters and most starters in general. No secondary typing really holds Generation II’s starters back.
However, what it lacks in offensive prowess, it makes up for in adorableness.
Where to Catch Chikorita
Cyndaquil is found as a starter in Generation II.
In Emerald, it can be acquired from Professor Birch after completing the Hoenn Pokédex.

7. Squirtle
Everyone’s favorite turtle Pokémon from Generation I, Squirtle evolves into Wartortle and then Blastoise.
Squirtle has always been the perfect mix of cute and cool. It is hard to ignore Squirtle’s cute demeanor, but we can’t help but gasp in awe whenever Ash’s Squirtle threw on his patented sunglasses.
As a Generation I Pokémon, Squirtle has cropped up tons of times over the years. Its cutest incarnation would have to be as a part of May’s team, where it wowed judges in an assortment of Pokémon contests.
Where to Catch Squirtle
Squirtle is acquired as a starter in the original Generation I games.
In Yellow, it is given to the player by Officer Jenny after you receive the Thunder Badge.

Bulbasaur is an adorable plant-based dinosaur Pokémon and the underrated fan favorite for many Generation I veterans.
It found a place on Ash’s team where it loved its own cuteness so much it refused to evolve into an Ivysaur.
Ash seemingly agreed and allowed his cute Bulbasaur to stay in its first stage.

5. Charmander
What is there to say about Charmander? Arguably, Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard are the three most well-known Pokémon on the planet aside from Pikachu (aside from Charmeleon perhaps).
Charizard is a mascot of the entire Pokémon franchise and often sees honorable mentions in other games (such as Leon’s Charizard in Sword and Shield).
Ash’s Charmander is a very cute Pokémon as well, with a heartwrenching backstory of trainer abuse.
Luckily, Ash was there to keep its flame burning!

Finally, in BDSP it is found in the Grand Underground.
4. Cubchoo
When it comes to downright heartstring-pulling cuteness, none does it better than Cubchoo.
Its runny nose, huge eyes, tiny paws, and baby-like expression just scream for someone to protect it.
Eventually, Cubchoo evolves into the ferocious Beartic Pokémon.
However, we hold no judgments against those who want to keep their Cubchoo in its base form.
Where to Catch Cubchoo
Cubchoo is found in Twist Mountain, Route 7, and Dragonspiral Tower in Black and White.
In B2/W2, it is round on Route 7.

Teddiursa hasn’t had many anime appearances. It popped up a few times over the years with notable appearances in Pokémon Movie 3.

2. Pikachu
Pikachu is the mascot of the entire Pokémon franchise, so naturally, it is designed to be as cute as possible!
Ash’s Pikachu is always cute, and whether it’s acting jealous, happy, or boastful, we’re here for it!
Arguably, Pikachu was a lot cuter in the early days of Pokémon, before it lost all its weight.
Whatever your stance, this lightning mouse Pokémon is undoubtedly one of the cutest Pokémon ever.
