Serena Pokémon (Anime)

Serena is one of Ash’s many companions that choose to join him on his Pokémon journey. She joins Ash throughout his Kalos adventures and debuts in Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin!.

She is a Pokémon Performer, a subset of female trainers who raise Pokémon and compete in showcases. Pokémon showcase events include things like dancing, movement sequences, and more.

Alongside her trusty Fennekin, Serena aims to be the best Pokémon Performer in the world!

    History

    Serena spent her early life in Kanto against her will, attending a Pokémon Summer camp. After meeting Ash Ketchum as a young child, the two became friends. Years later, the two would be reunited.

    Pokémon Journeys: The Series

    Serena also made an appearance in Pokémon Journeys: The series, where she performs with Sylveon in a Pokémon Contest. Her Braixen is now a Delphox.

    She briefly meets Ashe and Goh before they enter a ship, and Serena waves them goodbye.

    In the Manga

    Pokémon Adventures X and Y

    Serena doesn’t appear directly in the Pokémon manga. Instead, a character known as Y (Yvonne Gabena) takes her place. Y is the main character of Pokémon Adventures.

    Y’s adventures play out differently from Serena’s. Y is a competent Sky Trainer that has garnered the title “Flyer.”

    Additionally, her team now consists of:

    • Fletchinder (Fletchy)
    • Sylveon (Veevee)
    • Greninja (Croaky)
    • Rhyhorn (Rhyrhy)
    • Absol (Solsol)
    • Xerneas (Xerxer)

    Volume 1

    • Y and X are introduced, and they meet two legendary Pokémon in Vaniville Town.
    • X and Y are chased by some people in red before defeating them and arriving in Santalune City.

    Volume 2

    • X, Y, and their friends arrive in Lumiose City.
    • The group meets notable characters such as Lysandre, Diantha, Clemont, and Cassius.
    • The Volume ends when the gang reaches Route 6.

    Volume 3

    • Cassius promises to take the group to Cyllage City, where it is reported Y’s mother, Grace, is located.
    • Y battles with her schoolmates at the Sky Trainer Academy, that have been brainwashed by Team Flare.
    • Y is separated from her friends in a helicopter crash.
    • Y encounters Xerneas.
    • After seeing her mother, Y spoils the ambush the rest of the gang had prepared to take down Team Flare.
    • The Volume ends on Route 8

    Volume 4

    • Y and several gym leaders try to suppress Lysandre’s ultimate weapon, which would destroy Kalos if activated.
    • Xerneas chooses Y as its trainer.
    • Y obtains a Mega Ring.

    • Serena took the longest number of episodes to join Ash’s group (seven) out of any other traveling companions.
    • She is the only character not to be shocked by Pikachu at the start of the series.
      • Misty, May, Dawn – bikes shocked.
      • Iris, Bonnie – shocked directly.
    • Serena is the first character to be invited by Ash to travel alongside him.
    • Serena is the first female companion to actively express infatuation toward Ash.
    • Serena is the only character to permanently alter her appearance/outfit during the series.
